The World Poker Tour has divulged plans to host its first online series on the GVC Holdings PartyPoker platform. This is in light of the immediate future of its traditional tournaments remaining in doubt as the world struggles to deal with the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.
The WPT Online Series is set to run from 10 to 26 May and will feature a guaranteed prize pool of almost CA$10 million. It will consist of the WPT Online Championship, the WPT500, and WPTDeepStacks tournaments, with the main event being the Online Championship with a pool of almost CA$7 million and a CA$4, 470 buy-in for players. It will run for the duration of the Series, with flights for Day One available from the 10th of May.
WPT500 Online will unfold from 10 to 18 May, with 10 starting flights on the schedule and a CA$1.4 million guaranteed prize pool. The Series will then be completed with the WPTDeepStacks Online running from 25 to 26 May with a CA$1.4 million prize pot.
Chief Executive Officer and President of World Poker Tour, Adam Pliska, said that WPT and PartyPoker are proud to be breaking new ground for both their brands by hosting the first online Poker festival. He added that players from all over the world can anticipate playing in events from the comfort of their own homes at buy-in levels to suit every pocket.
WPT Europe Vice President Hermance Blum added that the CA$9.78 million guarantees for these events alone on PartyPoker represent an exciting leap forward for the partnership.
