Almost Half Of Millennials Want To See Online Gambling Legalisation

May 25, 2018 by

A new study on land-based casinos versus online casinos has shown that almost one in two millennials find that traditional casinos are depressing. The study was performed by London-based research firm YouGov, and it revealed that 47 per cent of millennials agree that land-based casinos are not appealing. The study also found that the number dropped slightly for those aged between 35-49, with 52 per cent of that age group favouring online casinos. For those aged above 65 and up, the number plummeted to just 27 per cent.

YouGov ran the study over the course of the year, and polled 32000 US residents. Many believe that the reason Millennials are in favour of online casinos is because of the presence of the Internet as they grew up.

The study comes as casino operators reveal that global slot usage is slowly falling out of favour, and are interested in finding new ways to attract a younger generation. One of the answers may lie in skill-based machines that don’t make use of fixed odds, which is how most slots currently work. Although this proposed change has seen some interest among millennials, it’s still unknown if there is any lasting potential.

Gaming consultant and adjunct professor of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Robert Ambrose, has told reporters, “This is the first generation that has grown up from diaper to ‘cap and gown’ centred in a planet-sized evolution of technology. So why wouldn’t they be bored with some of the casino environments and products of the past?”
