The Gaming Innovation Group has recently secured a new licence that will allow them to start offering affiliate marketing services within the regulated Romanian market. The Class II licence, who was issued by the National Gambling Office, will allow GIG Media Services division to refer traffic both to their online casino and sportsbook suppliers and operators that hold licences within the country.
The Media Services division operates GIG’s media assets, along with their paid media teams and publishing. GIG has stated that the launch in Romania will allow them to take advantage of its proprietary technology. The operator has also stated that securing the new licence fits in with its current strategy of expanding into regulated markets around the world.
Richard Brown, the chief operating officer of GIG told reporters that they are expanding into another market where they will be able to utilise their full range of marketing channels across both casino and sports. He added that Romania is still a developing market, and they have good projected growth for the future in terms of the online sector.
Confirmation of their permit follows after GIG secured two new licences in Spain, which cover both online casino and sports verticals. The Romanian government in January this year introduced a 2% monthly turnover tax for online operators licenced within the country. The tax has been imposed on top of existing licences and authorisation requirements, which will mean that potential operators will need to pay extra tax for approved licences.
