Punters in the UK will be able to withdraw funds much more easily in the future thanks to new orders set out by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The CMA has ordered that two online gambling operators will need to update their policies, while the Gambling Commission has released a statement warning that operators need to take immediate action or face the consequences.
Jumpman Gaming and Progress Play are the two operators in question, and have both been ordered to remove terms and conditions that previously disallowed players from withdrawing all of their own money through a single transaction.
Some of the customers of the two operators were forced to withdraw their money in instalments over an extended period of time that was set by the terms and conditions. Jumpman Gaming and Progress Play have both agreed to drop the practices, and will be reassessing their terms that allowed them to take money from players’ accounts that were inactive.
The announcement came after the CMA and the Gambling Commission carried out an investigating into the unfair terms and conditions that many in the gambling industry enforced. The CMA expects that more operators will begin following suit in changing their policies over the next few months. George Lusty, the senior director for consumer protection at the CMA told reporters that people that gamble should have the choice of withdrawing their own money whenever they want to, and that they expect more companies to scrap their current terms and conditions.
