After talks between Caesars Windsor and their striking employees, a second contracted offered by the casino has been rejected by the union workers. The unionised employees of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation will continue to strike and the casino itself will remain closed for the time being. New agreement are said to be in the works, and until both parties can settle, the casino will be locked from public usage.
At least 53% of the employees decided against the new contract which was offered last Friday, stating that the new contract was not much more different than the first one they were offered. For the initial contract, 59% of the employees voted against it.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reports that president of Unifor Local 444, Dave Cassidy, has stated, “I don’t know where we’re at right now” It is further reported that the president sounded defeated that the workers rejected the contract despite his negotiations with the casino that lasted two days.
Caesars Entertainment Regional President Kevin Laforet stated, “We are incredibly disappointed in the outcome of today’s vote which was fully endorsed by both the Unifor National and Local 444 bargaining teams. The agreement is more than fair and sustainable, and I personally want to apologies for the continued inconvenience this causes our customers. The long-term affect on our business goes well-beyond revenue loss and is immeasurable.” All concerts and other events that were to be held at Caesars Windsor have been indefinitely suspended.
