Global casino, poker and betting brand 888 has applied for a gaming license in Malta, following uncertainties about Brexit. The brand currently holds a license in Gibraltar, but is hugely concerned about the impact that the departure from the European Union will have on its operations.
888 have openly said that they seeing applying for a license from Malta as a back up plan and that they are also establishing a server farm in Ireland in order to continue their European operations without disruption, if the need arises.
An Unclear EU Future
In its 2017 financial statements 88 said that their ability to rely on the EU principles was shaky, and that they needed to address a way forward that would solidify their footing in the major EU markets, regardless of what Brexit would bring.
They added that the status of Gibraltar remained unclear at present and that they could not risk their operations in a climate of uncertainty, so were taking the necessary steps. With the focus on what a hard and soft Brexit would mean many other companies are also shoring up and assessing their options but 888 may well be ahead of the pack.
