Pennsylvania Issues Fines To Land Based Operators

Pennsylvania has recently pushed to legalise online gambling in the state and gamers are confident that the state will offer well-regulated, fair services. The state’s dedication to providing its citizens with a quality gambling experience was demonstrated again when state regulators issued over a million dollars in fines this year.

The fines totalling $1,167 000 were levied for a variety of reasons on land based casinos across the state. Hardest hit was the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino. They faced two massive fines for historic violations. $550 000 was issued for the casino’s failure to comply with calls to follow approved control methods to manage the free play slots correctly. They also did not properly manage their cashiers or perform acceptable internal audits.

They also received a $450 000 fine for working with unlicensed gaming service providers. This fine seems harsh at first but when you consider how much this casino has stepped over the line, it should be even higher as this is highly suspicious business activity for a casino.

Poor Business Management

Fines were also faced by the Mountainview thoroughbred racing association who have to pay $90 000 for underage gambling on their premises. They Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board felt that the racing association did not do enough to protect vulnerable individuals or to properly screen customers at their venue.

The fine also included an incident where one of the venue’s cashiers overpaid a customer by $9000. The Gaming Board felt that the Mountainview Racing Association failed to use adequate safeguards and systems with their cashiers to prevent faulty payment.

Failure To Obtain Proper Licensing

The Parx Casino located in Bucks County was next in line to receive fines. They also received two fines. The first was for $25 000 for failure to adequately deal with an inebriated customer. More details were not provided on the incident. Their second fine was for $10 000 due to the Parx Casino failing to register two of their employees in accordance with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board ‘s regulations.

Finally the Valley Forge Convention Centre ad Mount Airy received fines totalling $32 000 as they violated regulatory laws on offering gambling activities without the required approvals. While some complain about casino regulation, these cases show just how important it is to monitor and manage gaming in a state. The work of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has helped identify and rectify illegal gambling while also protecting vulnerable persons and employees in a comprehensive manner.
